Kenya: Kakamega Men Arrested for Attempting to Join Al-Shabaab in Somalia

Two Kakamega men, Idris Wesonga and Joseph Odhiambo, have been arrested for attempting to join the al-Shabaab militant group in Somalia.

According to reports, the two men left Mumias in October 2019 and traveled to Mandera, where they stayed for a month before crossing into Somalia.

It is alleged that they were heading to the Baidoa region to join the al-Shabaab group.

However, they were apprehended by Somali security forces and handed over to the Kenyan military, which is fighting against terrorism in the region.

Wesonga and Odhiambo were charged with escaping from the country and attempting to join a terrorist group.

The case will be heard again on January 10, 2020.

It is worth noting that the two men did not report their intentions to the immigration authorities, as required by law.

Police reports show that Wesonga and Odhiambo left Mumias in October 2019 and traveled to Mandera, where they stayed for a month before crossing into Somalia.

They were allegedly heading to the Baidoa region to join the al-Shabaab group, as they had booked a ticket to the area.
