On a fateful night, a group of friends had gathered at a Zimmerman residence for a party. As the evening wore on, some visitors began to leave, leaving behind the complainant and her sisters. It was then that the brother-in-law, Orobondi, allegedly called her outside, claiming someone wanted to see her.
Unbeknownst to her, Orobondi had ulterior motives. He led her to the rooftop, where he began to caress her, allegedly telling her that he had been starved of sex for a long time since his sister got pregnant and finally had a child.
"He told me he had starved of sex for a long time since my sister got pregnant and finally a child, and he couldn’t hold back any more," the complainant told the police.
She claimed that Orobondi threatened to push her down the building if she refused to comply. He then pulled her dress up, raped her, and warned her against telling anyone. In a chilling twist, he instructed her to lie to their friends, saying they had been at a nearby bar to check for alcoholic drinks.
Despite the traumatic experience, the complainant joined her friends in partying that night. The following morning, she left for her parents' home, where she confided in another sister about the ordeal. They subsequently reported the incident to the Kasarani police station and underwent a medical examination.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution argued that Orobondi was a flight risk due to his nationality. However, the defense team countered that he was the sole breadwinner of his family and had married a Kenyan, making it unlikely for him to abandon his family.
Despite the prosecution's concerns, the court granted Orobondi a Sh500,000 bond with a surety of the same amount. The case will be heard on April 4.
