After weeks of intense competition, the 32 teams that participated in the Champions League group stages learned their fate.
Top European clubs from Premier League, La Liga, and other top leagues dominated the group stages, making it to the knockout round.
Ajax, the Dutch side that was a semi-finalist last season, was the biggest loser, crashing out of the competition after a 1-0 home defeat to Valencia.
Meanwhile, all four Premier League clubs that participated in the competition progressed to the next round, including Liverpool, the defending champions, who had to wait until the last day to confirm their place.
Other teams that qualified for the knockout round include Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Dortmund, Leipzig, Paris Saint-Germain, Lyon, Juventus, Napoli, and Atalanta.
