John Mutinda's tragic death on the Likoni ferry has left Kenyans in shock, with many still trying to make sense of the circumstances surrounding his demise.

According to his widow, Ruth Mueni, Mutinda had a strange dream in which his father called from the grave, instructing him to meet him in Mombasa's central business district. He allegedly left their rental home at Vanga estate around 4am, only to plunge into the Indian Ocean moments later.

However, Mutinda's family has a different story to tell. His mother, Musangi Mutinda, has accused his widow of subjecting him to domestic abuse for years, and has accused her of misrepresenting the circumstances of his death.

Mutinda, a 46-year-old clearing and forwarding agent, will be buried at his Kyanika village home in Kitui on December 21.
