A devastating road crash occurred at a notorious blackspot in Makueni County, where two Modern Coast buses collided in the early hours of Thursday, December 12, 2019.
The accident, which happened at 2:30am near Salama town along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway, resulted in the deaths of 7 people, with 62 others injured.
According to Makueni County police commander Joseph Ole Naipeiyan, one of the buses was headed to Nairobi, while the other was traveling from Malaba to Mombasa.
The bus that veered off course and collided with the other vehicle was traveling to Nairobi, Naipeiyan confirmed.
Police have been deployed to the scene to facilitate smooth traffic flow, and the injured passengers have been rushed to Sultan Hamud Hospital for treatment.
As the investigation into the accident continues, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has highlighted the alarming rate of road accidents in the country, with eight men dying daily in such incidents.
