Beyoncé Knowles Carter, a renowned singer, actress, and entrepreneur, has been open about her struggles with mental health and motherhood in a recent interview with Elle magazine.
Published in the January 2020 issue, the interview marks a rare moment of vulnerability for the 23-time Grammy award winner, who has been candid about her experiences with pregnancy, miscarriage, and self-care.
After a difficult pregnancy with her twins, Rumi and Sir, Beyoncé took a year-long break from the music industry to focus on her health. She credits her decision to her research on homeopathic medicines and her commitment to self-care, which includes a balanced diet, acupuncture, meditation, visualization, and breathing exercises.
"After having a difficult pregnancy, I took a year to focus on my health," Beyoncé said in the interview. "I have researched information on homeopathic medicines. I don't just put any prescription in my body. My diet is important, and I use tools like acupuncture, meditation, visualization, and breathing exercises."
The singer also spoke about the importance of self-care in a society where women are often expected to "tough it up" and ignore their symptoms. She emphasized the need for women to prioritize their own well-being and take care of themselves before others.
Beyoncé's journey with motherhood has been marked by challenges, including miscarriages and the struggle to balance work and family life. However, she has also found strength and purpose in her experiences, which have taught her to value herself beyond her physical appearance.
"If someone told me 15 years ago that my body would go through so many changes and fluctuations, and that I would feel more womanly and secure with my curves, I would not have believed them," Beyoncé said. "But children and maturity have taught me to value myself beyond my physical appearance and really understand that I am more than enough no matter what stage I’m at in life."
