Published on December 12, 2019, at 7:40 AM

A devastating head-on collision between two buses from Modern Coast occurred on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway in Kenya, resulting in the deaths of five people and injuring 62 others.

The accident happened at Kiongwani area near Salama market, a notorious blackspot that has recorded over 10 road crashes in the last three weeks.

According to Makueni County commander Joseph Napeiyan, the two buses were heading in opposite directions when they collided. One of the buses, coming from Mombasa, left its lane and collided with the oncoming bus.

Those injured were rushed to Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital for treatment.

The accident has sparked widespread criticism of Modern Coast's drivers, with many netizens pointing out carelessness on the road.

Netizens have expressed their condolences to the affected families, with some cautioning travelers to be careful on the roads during the festive season due to reduced visibility caused by ongoing rains.
