On December 11, 2019, Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko was granted bail, allowing him to return home after being charged with corruption.
Earlier that day, he and 12 others were charged with several counts of corruption in the Anti-Corruption Court.
Magistrate Douglas Ogoti freed Sonko on a Sh30 million bond, with a surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Sh15 million.
Seven of his co-accused were freed on a bond of Sh3 million, a surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of the same.
Five other accused persons were granted a Sh30 million bond or a Sh10 million cash bail.
As a condition of his bail, Sonko was ordered to deposit his passport and any other travel documents in court.
He was also asked to ensure that his supporters maintain peace.
Sonko will appear in court on January 15, 2020.
