On Wednesday evening, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was released from police custody after posting a cash bail of Ksh.15 million.
According to reports, Governor Sonko left the Milimani Law Courts at around 8pm in the company of his lawyers, after spending the last five days in custody.
He is facing 19 corruption-related charges alongside 11 others, including Nairobi County Government officials, over irregular procurement and payment of over Ksh.357 million.
During the court proceedings, Governor Sonko pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted a bond of Ksh.30 million with a surety of similar amount or Ksh.15 million cash bail.
However, he was barred from accessing his office, including executing the Governor's functions, and was ordered to refrain from commenting on the case on social media.
Additionally, Governor Sonko and his co-accused were directed to deposit their passports and other travel documents in court.
