Published on December 11, 2019, Kenya and Suriname are strengthening their bilateral ties through cooperation in key areas such as food security, environmental conservation, and trade.

Suriname's Foreign Minister Yldiz Beighle praised Kenya's efforts in environmental conservation, citing the country's ban on plastic bags and anti-logging initiatives as steps in the right direction.

Kenya is keen to export more agricultural products and human resources to Suriname, with the two countries exploring opportunities for trade and investment.

Relations between Kenya and Suriname are relatively new, dating back to President Dési Bouterse's private visit to Kenya last month.

The two countries are also exploring the possibility of Kenya Airways starting direct flights to Suriname, and have scrapped visas for Kenyans traveling to the South American nation.
