On December 11, 2019, Kakamega Homeboyz secured a crucial 1-0 win over Bandari FC at the Bukhungu Stadium, catapulting them to the top of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) standings, albeit temporarily.
Christopher Masinza scored the match-winning goal in the opening 10 minutes, marking Homeboyz's third consecutive league victory and displacing Gor Mahia FC from the top spot.
However, Tusker FC later claimed the top position with a 1-0 win over Wazito in a late match in Machakos, with Eric Ambunya scoring the decisive goal in the 72nd minute.
Earlier, Ulinzi Stars dominated Chemelil Sugar 4-1 at the Muhoroni Grounds, with Enosh Ochieng scoring a first-half double and John Kago and Ezekiel Okare also finding the back of the net.
David Simiyu scored a consolation goal for Chemelil Sugar, who suffered their 12th defeat in 13 matches.
Homeboyz's win marked their third successive league victory, and they now sit atop the KPL table on 26 points, one point above defending champions Gor Mahia.
The Nicolas Muyoti-coached side will face Ulinzi Stars in their next match, while Bandari will visit Kisumu All Stars.
