Kenya's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Wilson Airport will be temporarily closed on Thursday, December 12, 2019, due to Jamhuri Day celebrations.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has announced the temporary closures, which will affect passengers planning to fly in and out of Kenya or within the country.
According to KCAA Director-General Cpt. Gilbert Kibe, the airports will be closed to flights at certain hours on Thursday, but the specific hours were not disclosed.
Several airlines, including Fly450 and East African Air, have issued advisories to their clients, warning of potential flight delays due to the airspace closure.
"Due to Jamhuri Day celebrations, no flights will be allowed to take off or land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport between 11.00am and 12pm," Fly450 stated on Twitter.
East African Air also issued a similar advisory, stating that no flights would be allowed to take off or land at JKIA between 9.00am and 2.00pm.
