Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has lost his appeal against a High Court ruling that ordered him to pay Sh100 million for a prime plot of land in Nairobi.

The land, located on Church Road in Westlands, has an estimated value of Sh3.5 billion and has been occupied by Kabogo for over 10 years.

According to a ruling by the Appellate Court on December 6th, 2019, Kabogo and State land officers fraudulently registered the land in the name of Carroget Investments Ltd.

Justice William Ouko, Fatuma Sichale, and Sankale ole Kantai, in their ruling, stated that Kabogo's actions were an 'act of impunity' and that he had forcefully invaded the property, evicted the rightful owner, and occupied it for over 10 years.

Kabogo had argued that he had applied to the City Council in 2007 and was duly allocated the parcel for a 99-year lease, but the Appeal Court judges dismissed this claim, stating that it was a case of 'shameless, outright typical Kenyan-style land grabbing.'

Kabogo has indicated that he intends to move to the Supreme Court, stating 'I will fight to the highest level of appeal.'
