Carlo Ancelotti's tenure as Napoli manager came to an abrupt end on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, following a 4-0 victory over KRC Genk in the Champions League.

Just an hour after the match, Napoli announced that they had decided to revoke Ancelotti's role as first-team coach, citing a need for change.

Despite the sudden departure, Ancelotti's rapport with Napoli's president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, remains intact, with the club stating that their 'friendship, admiration, and reciprocal respect' remain unchanged.

Everton, who had been linked with Ancelotti, is now expected to begin contract talks with the Italian, who managed Napoli for 19 months.

Former Everton boss David Moyes could still return to Goodison Park in an interim role, while a new permanent manager is put in place.

Arsenal, meanwhile, is also considering Ancelotti to succeed Unai Emery, with the Italian's reputation as a top-level manager earning him widespread respect.

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard, who worked under Ancelotti at AC Milan, praised the Italian's ability to manage anywhere in the world, saying: 'I think he can manage anywhere in the world at the top level, of course.'
