Kenyan marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge is set to receive an Honorary Doctorate of Laws degree from the University of Exeter in the UK. The recognition comes just days after Kipchoge was awarded another honorary degree from Laikipia University.
According to a letter from the University of Exeter's Vice Chancellor Professor Sir Steve Smith, dated July, the institution reserves such recognition for a small number of individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their field.
Smith wrote, 'It gives me great pleasure to inform you that the Council and Senate of the University of Exeter would like to recognize your outstanding achievements in the field of sport by conferring upon you an Honorary Doctorate of Laws.'
Kipchoge's achievement of running a marathon in under two hours, achieved during the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in Vienna, Austria, has earned him widespread recognition and accolades.
He will receive the Honorary Doctorate of Laws degree at the University of Exeter's winter graduation ceremony on December 13.
