Kenya's aviation sector is gearing up for a unique challenge as JKIA and Wilson airports prepare to close their airspace for one hour on December 12, 2019, to allow for Jamhuri Day celebrations.

According to Fly 540, a local airline, no flights will be allowed to take off or land at the two airports between 5 am and 12 pm on the day.

The closure is part of the country's preparations for the Jamhuri Day celebrations, which will be held at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Passengers who have booked flights for the day have been asked to be patient and understanding of the situation.

"If you are our passenger on December 12, we would appreciate it if you could give us a heads up as your flight may be delayed for one hour, we are making efforts to communicate with affected passengers, thank you for flying with us," Fly 540 said in a statement.
