December 9, 2019, marked the end of Jumia Food's on-demand services in Rwanda, as the company suspended its operations in the country.

According to Jumia, the decision was made to consolidate resources in areas and markets that are profitable for their business.

As reported by Reuters, Jumia stated, 'We have made the difficult decision to suspend our on-demand services in Rwanda effective December 9, 2019.'

Albert Munyabugingo, Jumia's Managing Director for Rwanda, was quoted by the New Times as saying the company wants to refocus its business.

Similar to their exits from Tanzania and Cameroon, Jumia cited the need to reduce running costs to be more effective as an organization.

The company's revenue estimates for three consecutive quarters by December were not met, and uneven markets in the region have made operations challenging.

As a result, Jumia has been shutting down operations in smaller markets, including Rwanda.
