Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's bail application was granted on December 11, 2019, but with strict conditions that limit his freedom.
Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti ruled in favour of Sonko's application, citing the right of accused persons to bail unless under strenuous circumstances.
However, the court imposed tough conditions, including a Sh15 million cash bail with the option of submitting a Sh30 million surety bond.
As part of the conditions, Sonko is barred from accessing his office unless accompanied by investigators, and he is strictly prohibited from commenting on the case publicly and on social media.
He was also directed to submit his travel documents and to restrain his supporters from causing public disorder during the hearing of the case against him.
