On December 11, 2019, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i emphasized the need for Kenyans, especially political leaders, to embrace tolerance.
Speaking after meeting the new commissioners of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, Dr. Matiang'i stressed that the country's diversity should not be used to divide Kenyans.
He promised to support the commission in delivering on their constitutional mandate to ensure Kenyans live in harmony.
The commission's new Chairman, Reverend Samuel Kobia, called on political leaders and the media to stop voicing and airing statements that breed discord among Kenyans.
Reverend Kobia said the commission was well-prepared to ensure Kenyans co-exist in harmony and intended to work with schools to promote national ethos and provide spaces for young Kenyans from all parts of the country to appreciate and embrace diversity at a tender age.
