On December 11, 2019, a police officer was arrested in connection with the alleged defilement of a 15-year-old Form One girl in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay.
The suspect, Constable Kelvin Muturi, was attached to Rangwe Police Station at the time of the incident.
According to Homa Bay County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Daniel Wachira, Muturi is suspected of committing the offense while serving at Ndhiwa Police Station.
"The suspect while on night shift sneaked to the cell and picked the minor, took her to his house within Ndhiwa Police Station where it's reported that he sexually abused her and later allowed the minor to go back in the cell," Wachira said.
Investigations into the incident were completed, and the DCI submitted their file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) for further direction.
The ODPP then recommended the immediate arrest and prosecution of the officer.
The suspect is detained at Homa Bay Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court on Wednesday.
