On December 10, 2019, the New York Yankees made a significant move in their pursuit of a World Series title by signing Gerrit Cole to a record-breaking contract worth $324 million over nine years.

The 29-year-old right-hander agreed to the deal, pending a physical examination, and secured a full no-trade clause in the agreement.

Cole's contract surpasses the previous record held by Stephen Strasburg, who re-signed with the Washington Nationals for seven years and $245 million on Monday. The new deal also eclipses the average annual value of Mike Trout's contract with the Los Angeles Angels, which stands at $35.5 million.
