Google has finally made Android 10 available for its TV platform, Android TV, after a long wait.

Launched five years ago, Android TV has been Google's attempt to bring its popular mobile platform into the living room, alongside WearOS, Android Auto, and Android Things.

Android TV has been receiving interesting feature updates over the last few months, including a redesigned Google Play Store that has been rolling out to users.

One of the notable features of Android 10 on Android TV is the data-saving features that are now built right into the platform, which will be appreciated by users on tight budgets and with unreliable data connections.

However, it remains to be seen how fast Android 10 will make it to existing TV sets, given that some of the most notable Android TV partners, like Xiaomi, are still trialling Android 10's predecessor, Android 9 Pie, on their televisions.

At its annual developer conference in May, Google projected that at least 60% of televisions on the Android TV platform would be running on Android 8, Oreo, a 2-year-old operating system, by the time Android 10 was released.

As of a few weeks before Google I/O 2019, Android TV's app numbers had surged to at least 5,000, up from just over 3,000 the year before.
