December 10th marked the beginning of a new era for Nokia 7.1 users in Kenya, as HMD Global started rolling out the Android 10 update to the device. According to the company's Chief Product Officer, this update was promised and is now a reality.
As reported on Nokia's Twitter page, the Android 10 rollout is set to continue for the next few days and weeks until all devices have been upgraded. The update clocks in at just under 1.3GB and arrives with last month's security patch.
The Nokia 7.1 has been available in the country for over a year now, having gone on sale in November 2018. It promptly received its Android Pie upgrade in December 2018, a process that started just a few days before the end of November.
With the Nokia 7.1 receiving Android 10, the first phase of HMD Global's upgrade roadmap is now complete. The company will resume seeding Android 10 to other devices in its portfolio in the new year.
As Nokia smartphones powered by the Windows mobile platform lose their support, marking the end of an era, this news comes as an interesting twist. It pushes any holdouts to the brave new future: Android on Nokia smartphones.
