Passaris Meets Jidenna, Sparks Debate in Nairobi

On December 8, 2019, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris had a chance meeting with American-Nigerian singer Jidenna at the Entebbe Airport in Uganda.

Passaris was in Uganda to attend the East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games, which kicked off on Monday in Kampala.

The two took a picture together, with Jidenna wearing black and white striped slacks and Passaris wearing a white t-shirt and black pants.

Passaris shared the photo on her Twitter page, accompanied by an adorable quote:

It was nice to bump into @Jidenna just as I landed at Entebbe and be introduced to his music catalogue. I’m proud of this son of Africa making waves globally with his unique blend of Nigerian and American culture. — Hon. Esther M Passaris (@EstherPassaris) December 8, 2019

However, opinions are divided among Kenyans on Twitter on the photo and the timing.

  • Some people questioned the timing of Passaris's meeting with Jidenna, given the current situation in Nairobi.
  • Others defended Passaris, saying there is no rule that prevents her from hanging out with celebrities.
  • Some people even joked that Passaris will claim she was on official duty when she returns to Nairobi.

As the debate continues, one thing is clear: Passaris's meeting with Jidenna has sparked a lively discussion on social media.
