On December 9, 2019, the curtains fell on the first season of the Great Kenyan Bake Off, a baking competition that brought together 12 amateur bakers in a series of rounds to showcase their skills and impress the judges.
The competition, which started on October 7, 2019, and aired every Monday at 8pm on KTN Home, was owned by the BBC and in partnership with Unga Limited. The show was the first of its kind in Kenya, the 32nd country to host the competition, and only the second in Africa after South Africa.
After a series of challenges, Rosemary Akoth Ligondo, 34, emerged as the winner, beating Adeline Prima Serrao, 27, and Samira Ali, 44, who were the first and second runners-up respectively.
As the winner, Rosemary received a 2-week baking and pastry training in France, a 2-month apprenticeship at a top local bakery, and kitchen supplies and equipment worth Sh150,000 from Unga Limited.
Adeline and Samira, the runners-up, received kitchen supplies and equipment worth Sh100,000 each from Unga Limited.
The season finale gala was held at the Le Grenier à pain in Nairobi, with Standard Group CEO Olando Lyomu and Unga Limited's Nick Hutchinson among the chief guests who attended the event.
