On the sidelines of the 9th African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) summit at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani and European Union Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen signed a financial agreement on December 11, 2019.
The agreement is part of the EU's 2019 Action Plan to support Public Accountability and Service Delivery (PASEDE), which has allocated €26 million (Sh2.9 billion) to support Kenya's public financial management systems.
According to Yattani, the programme aims to promote macro fiscal stability and service delivery in the country through the successful implementation of the PFM strategy 2018-2023.
“We note with appreciation the allocation of €26 million (Sh2.9 billion) committed by the European Union in its Action Plan 2019 to support the PASEDE, whose financing agreement has just been signed,” Yattani said.
Additionally, the EU provided Sh560 million (€5 million) to support political dialogue, which is part of the Action Plan 2019.
Urpilainen expressed the EU's commitment to fostering a mutual partnership with Kenya, aligning some of their programmes with the Big Four agenda of the Jubilee administration.
“We would like to foster a partnership that is mutual. Kenya’s Big Four agenda is closely aligned to our five pillars,” Urpilainen said.
