On December 11, 2019, a significant operation by the DCI in Nairobi led to the seizure of over $15 million in fake currency.

A 29-year-old suspect, Yassin Ahmed, was arrested in connection with the fake money, which was recovered from a room at Eden House Flats in Pangani Shopping Centre.

According to the DCI, the officers were acting on intelligence and conducted a search, resulting in the recovery of a black bag containing the fake money.

The suspect was placed in custody pending arraignment, and officers from DCI Starehe are pursuing the case, believing Ahmed to be involved in the printing and distribution of fake money.

Police are also still searching for Ahmed's accomplices.

This incident bears resemblance to a previous case on September 29, where police seized fake $1 million and 147 fake gold bars from a popular club in Kilimani, Nairobi.

Director of Criminal Investigation George Kinoti renewed his call for foreigners seeking to buy gold in Kenya to seek authorities' advice, emphasizing the importance of proper due diligence when engaging in the gold buying business.
