Published on December 10, 2019, a tense power struggle is unfolding in Kiambu County, with impeachment motions against Governor Ferdinand Waititu and Deputy Governor James Nyoro being postponed.
The motions, which were initially set for debate on Tuesday, have been rescheduled for next week, allowing both sides to consolidate their numbers and prepare for the debate.
Waititu's impeachment motion has been moved to Wednesday, December 18, while Nyoro's motion is slated for Thursday, December 19.
The postponement is seen as a strategic move by the assembly to avoid accusations of impeaching the governor without giving him a fair hearing.
MCAs want Waititu out of office on several charges, including abuse of office, gross misconduct, and conflict of interest in using proxy companies to trade with the county.
On the other hand, the Waititu wing is trying to edge Nyoro out, claiming he is physically and mentally incapacitated to run the county affairs.
With 92 MCAs in the Kiambu County Assembly, both sides are now wooing 6 undecided MCAs to secure their support.
