GetMyBoat, a San Francisco-based marine application, has set its sights on Kenya's growing marine-based tourism industry. Founded in 2013, the platform allows users to rent boats and access a range of services, including boat riding, kayaking, and more.

With the increasing penetration of smartphones, GetMyBoat aims to make it easier for people to access these services, particularly during the peak season. The application is now available in 184 countries, including Israel, Italy, and Greece.

Already, GetMyBoat has listed 93 boats in Kenya, with operations in towns along the coast, including Malindi and Lamu. The platform allows boat owners to list their vessels, use local knowledge to provide tours, and earn money.

The cost of service starts from a minimum of KSh2,000 per hour, with a commission ranging from 7% for domestic bookings to 10% for international charters. Pricing depends on various factors, including the period of usage, model, and capacity of the boat.

GetMyBoat's Head of Marketing, Val Steif, noted that the platform is ideal for locals who want to enjoy boating without owning a boat. 'Boat ownership is declining on a global scale — younger generations cannot afford to buy and maintain, but they still want the chance to get out on the water.'

GetMyBoat hopes to make the boating experience for travelers easier, particularly with the rise of Kenyan tourism. The platform offers a range of services, including Pontoon Rentals, Yacht Rentals, and more, although some services may not be available in Kenya.
