On December 10, 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) made a significant seizure in Nairobi's Pangani estate, uncovering over Ksh.1.5 billion in fake US dollars.
The fake currency notes were discovered stashed in a bag in a room at Eden House Flats in Pangani Shopping Centre, following an intelligence-led operation.
One suspect, identified as Yassin Ahmed Osman, a 29-year-old, was arrested during the operation and has since been detained pending arraignment.
According to the DCI, they are pursuing the case to neutralize the entire chain of perpetrators.
As reported by the DCI on Twitter, the operation involved storming the house and conducting a search, which led to the discovery of the fake currency.
