On December 10, 2019, Harambee Stars made a thrilling comeback to defeat Sudan 2-1 in the CECAFA Senior Challenge championship at the KCCA Lugogo Stadium in Uganda.
Substitute Hassan Abdallah and Oscar Wamalwa scored crucial goals in the second half to seal a semi-final ticket for Kenya.
Assistant coach Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno praised his team's second-half performance, saying, 'It was unfortunate that we conceded first and Sudan were keen to sit back seeking to hit us on counter attacks. I was therefore always directing from the touchline the boys to show more urgency, which really paid off in the second half.'
However, Sudan's coach Mohammed Moussa Dawoud felt his team was unfairly treated, stating, 'We were denied a penalty in the first half that would have made a major difference by the time we were coming to the second half.'
Abdallah's 64th-minute header and Wamalwa's 76th-minute goal proved to be the turning point in the match, as Kenya secured a hard-fought victory.
