On December 10, 2019, Ugandan police arrested Nigerian footballer John Odemwangu, who plays for KCCA FC, for allegedly detaining three female university students at his home in Nakawa, a Kampala suburb.

According to Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the incident began when Odemwangu's Ugandan girlfriend, whom he had met a week earlier, invited her two female friends to his home.

However, when the women asked to leave at around 9pm, Odemwangu reportedly insisted they stay, confiscated their mobile phones, locked them inside the house, and left.

Enanga stated, 'We arrested him on charges of unlawful confinement. These are University students. For 10 hours, these three girls found themselves in a very vulnerable situation that anything could have happened to them. We managed to arrest the suspect.'

Police have cautioned young adults to be careful, saying the dating landscape has changed and 'anything' can happen on a date.
