On December 10, 2019, the Consumer Federation of Kenya (Cofek) expressed its intention to file a contempt of court case against Nairobi County government for defying a court ruling on parking fees.
The consumer lobby claims that City Hall acted with impunity by failing to stick to a court directive that temporarily suspended an increment on parking fees, awaiting the ruling of the case.
According to Cofek Secretary-General Stephen Mutoro, the county legal department was served with the court order on Thursday last week, but the higher fee was still being levied.
City Hall Director of Parking Services Tom Tinega disputed Mutoro's claim, stating that they were yet to be served with the court order and would only proceed once they received it.
"Let them show a stamped document of what they served the county's legal department or County Attorney. The document must be seen by the department and stamped received with date indicated," Tinega added.
