Published on December 10, 2019, a section of the Kitale-Lodwar road has been closed off due to recent heavy rainfall.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) cited the heavy rainfall as the reason for the road closure, stating that it has cut off a section of the road at Ortum in West Pokot, making it impassable.

Motorists have been directed to use an alternative diversion provided by the authority to allow them to 'desilt and backfill the cut off section.'

Those operating on the road have also been warned against attempting to cross the sections that are cut off.

The heavy rains experienced across the country have led to floods and landslides, resulting in loss of lives and damaged property.

According to government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna, the death toll following flooding in several parts of the country stands at 132.

Approximately 330,000 people have been affected by the rains, with 17,000 displaced.
