A sitting Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Kitui County was arrested in connection with a series of alleged mobile phone thefts in CBD.

Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka, the MCA for Ikanga/Kyatune Ward, was arrested by detectives from Kamukunji Police Station during an intelligence-led operation along Mfangano Street.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Musyoka had been under investigation over three separate phone theft incidents reported in August and September 2026.

CCTV footage played a crucial role in the investigations, helping detectives identify Musyoka as a suspect in the reported incidents.

His arrest also brought to light an outstanding warrant in a separate criminal case.

The DCI said Musyoka is wanted in Criminal Case No. 112/303/2024 after allegedly failing to attend court following his release on bond by the Makadara Law Courts, where he had been charged with stealing.

Musyoka remained in police custody as detectives completed the necessary processing ahead of his arraignment.

The arrest comes amid continued efforts by detectives to investigate reported thefts in Nairobi’s CBD, where mobile phone theft remains a concern for members of the public.

The DCI reiterated that public officials and other individuals would be held accountable for alleged criminal conduct regardless of their positions in society.

“No one is above the law,” the agency said, adding that detectives would continue pursuing leads and presenting suspects before the courts to answer to the allegations against them.

Musyoka did not respond to our calls.

He was expected to be produced in court pending the completion of other procedures.
