On December 10, 2019, Qatar Airways signed a historic partnership with Rwanda to redesign the country's airport, a project valued at Ksh. 132 billion (approximately $1.3 billion).
The partnership, which will see Qatar Airways take a 60% stake in the project, aims to transform the Rwanda International Airport into a world-class facility.
According to Rwanda Development Board, the airport is expected to accommodate seven million passengers per year, with the first phase expected to take five years to complete.
Speaking during a news conference, Claver Gatete, Rwanda's Infrastructure Minister, stated that they are still seeking a construction company to build the airport.
The agreements signed on Monday mark a key milestone in the development of Rwanda's vibrant aviation sector, with the project expected to be completed in 2032.
