Published on December 10, 2019, a High Court in Kisumu has dealt a significant blow to Kisumu Speaker Onyango Oloo after upholding his impeachment.

According to the court, the impeachment proceedings by the members of the county assembly met the 75% threshold required for impeaching a speaker.

High Court Judge Justice Nduma Nderi ruled that the case filed by Oloo lacked merit and that he failed to turn up at the assembly on September 18 to defend himself.

The court further ordered Oloo to return all properties belonging to the assembly.

On the graft case facing Oloo in regards to the LBDA mall scandal, the judge ruled that it had no bearing on the impeachment case.

Justice Nderi faulted Oloo for not taking the opportunity to defend himself, which ultimately led to the impeachment.
