On December 10, 2019, Siaya High Court Judge Lady Justice Roseline Aburili directed that Victor Ogola Luta and Franklin Joel Luta be detained for 8 more days pending mental examination.
The brothers, linked to the murder of Star journalist Eric Oloo, are to remain in police custody until December 18, 2019.
According to the Prosecutor, David Okach, the suspects had not yet taken plea to their charges and were yet to undergo mental tests.
Lady Justice Aburili ordered that the mental examination be conducted at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu on December 17, 2019.
After the examination, the suspects are to be returned to court on December 18, 2019, for plea taking.
The court also directed that the suspects be provided with a lawyer once the case begins, as they had informed the court that they cannot afford to hire a lawyer on their own.
Five people, including Ugunja deputy OCS Sabina Kerubo, in whose house the body of the journalist was found, are also in police custody.
On December 2, 2019, Kerubo was arraigned before Siaya Principal Magistrate James Ong’odo and ordered to be detained at the Siaya Police Station pending completion of investigations.
