Published on December 10, 2019, in Kampala, Uganda, Harambee Stars head coach Francis Kimanzi has been handed a two-match touchline ban by the Cecafa Senior Challenge organizers.
The competition organizers accused Kimanzi of inciting his players to protest their match against Tanzania, which was played despite a 10-minute delay, with Kenya winning 1-0.
However, Kimanzi has denied the allegations, saying he does not deal with players at the level of purported issues and that he was only warming up the team and managing the game.
‘I’ve also read it in from some section of media, because I haven’t received any letter and I don’t know what I’ve done to be suspended…may be to win?’ Kimanzi said, laughing off the decision.
Assistant coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno will take charge of the team in Kimanzi’s absence, as Stars seek their second win on Tuesday afternoon against Sudan, which would guarantee them a place in the last four from Group B.
