Manchester City's Pep Guardiola has been at the helm of the club since 2016, but his future remains uncertain.

Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu has spoken out about the former Barcelona boss, saying 'the door will always be open for him at Barca'.

Guardiola is contracted until 2021 and has previously suggested he would be open to extending his contract, but the City board are reportedly preparing for the worst.

According to The Athletic, the City hierarchy are aware of this and in the process of sounding out possible future replacements to be hired to work an initial backroom role.

Guardiola has won two Premier League titles at Manchester City, but is yet to taste Champions League success with the Etihad club.

It is thought that should the Citizens fail again in Europe that the 48-year-old will move on.

Guardiola himself has said he is 'so comfortable working with this club' and is 'open' to extending his contract, but wants to see how the season and next season play out.
