Published on December 10, 2019, Google released its annual list of most searched terms in Kenya for 2019, revealing the country's fascination with the late Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore and marathoner Eliud Kipchoge.

Bob Collymore's life and death captivated Kenyans, with many searching for information about the CEO who passed away in 2019. His relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta and his advocacy for the late CEO were also topics of interest.

Meanwhile, Eliud Kipchoge's historic marathon run, where he beat the sub two-hour INEOS 1:59 challenge, was a major talking point in Kenya. The video of the event garnered the most views in Kenya in 2019, even though it took place in October.

Other local personalities who made it to the list include John DeMathew, Joyce Laboso, Ken Okoth, Tob Cohen, Governor Mike Sonko, Jonathan Moi, Ivy Wangeci, and Esther Arunga.

Internationally, Game of Thrones, Money Heist, Avengers Endgame, Bird Box, When They See Us, and Sex and the City were the most popular movies and TV series in Kenya in 2019.

The Ethiopian Airlines B737 MAX crash, which occurred in March 2019, was a major global aviation story that affected several Kenyans.
