Published on December 10, 2019, rescue efforts at the site of the collapsed six-storey building in Tassia estate, Nairobi have concluded, despite concerns of people still missing.
The four-day operation conducted by the Kenya Defence Forces, the National Disaster Management Unit, and the Kenya Red Cross has shed light on the poor state of residential buildings in the city.
Deputy County Commissioner James Wanyoike had earlier reported that 35 people were pulled from the rubble, but it has been confirmed that 10 people, including four children, lost their lives in the tragedy.
The cause of the building's collapse remains unknown, with some locals suggesting that the ground floor was the first to crumble.
Local elder David Kahuha has stated that those feared trapped in the building have been accounted for, with 46 people found, including 10 dead, 6 injured at Kenyatta National Hospital, and 21 with minor injuries at Tassia Catholic Church.
