On December 10, 2019, a four-day rescue operation at the site of a collapsed six-storey building in Nairobi's Tassia estate came to an end, despite concerns of people still missing.

The operation, conducted by the Kenya Defence Forces, the National Disaster Management Unit, and the Kenya Red Cross, highlighted the poor state of residential buildings in the city.

According to Deputy County Commissioner James Wanyoike, who coordinated the rescue efforts, 35 people were pulled from the rubble, but unfortunately, 10 people, including four children, were confirmed dead.

Another six people are nursing serious injuries at Kenyatta National Hospital, while 21 with minor injuries are being treated at Tassia Catholic Church.

Local elder David Kahuha stated that those feared trapped in the building have been accounted for, with no reports of missing people.

However, the cause of the building's collapse remains unknown, with some locals suggesting that the ground floor was the first to crumble.
