Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko arrived at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday to face corruption charges at City Hall, following an order from Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji.

He was charged with Sh357m fraud alongside several other City Hall officials, after spending the weekend in EACC cells awaiting his arraignment.

Sonko's legal team includes Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior, Senator Kipchumba Murkomen of Elgeyo Marakwet, Dan Maanzo-MP Makueni, and lawyer Nelson Havi, among others.

On the issue of Senators defending Sonko as his lawyers, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja stated, 'I think the first thing is we are in a county that must have law and order. So many allegations on corruption have been happening in Nairobi. There could be an issue with his arrest, but he needs to go through the court process.'

Sakaja further added, 'It is a complete conflict of interest. It is your right to have the lawyer of your choice and best legal advice, but you cannot be a Senator who is supposed to defend your County and then defend a case on corruption.'

News reaching Kamene and Kibe is that Sonko has been rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital.
