Published on December 10, 2019, a good night time skincare routine is essential for maintaining youthful and healthy-looking skin.

Whether you have had a typical day at the office or a busy day running errands, your skin takes a beating from external forces on a daily basis. Dirt, pollution, the sun, and daily stress can cause damage to your skin, making it look dull and aged.

Fortunately, a good night time skincare routine can help repair damages caused by these external forces and leave your skin looking youthful and radiant. Here are some of the tips to help you with your night time skincare:

First, always remove your makeup before starting your skincare routine. Identify a good makeup remover for your skin type and apply it generously, letting it sit for about 15 minutes. This will soften the harder to break components of your makeup, making the removal task easier and more thorough.

Next, wash your face with a gentle soap or cleanser and lukewarm water. This will remove all the residual makeup and dirt from your skin. Be sure to use a gentle soap or cleanser that is suitable for your skin type.

After washing your face, apply a small amount of retinoid all over your face, leaving the areas around your eyes, corners of mouth, and creases of the nose. Retinoids are a common active ingredient in most anti-aging products and are derived from Vitamin A. They are used for the treatment of lines, wrinkles, and acne.

Most retinoid products dry the skin out, so be sure to moisturize afterwards. Apply a generous amount of moisturizer all over your face and neck before you go to bed. Night-time moisturizers work to make the skin soft and subtle by retaining moisture and providing a heavy dose of hydration.

Finally, use a toner to balance out the pH of your skin. Toners have been historically used to balance out the pH of your skin after using an alkaline soap. Since most cleansers already play multiple roles, balancing out the pH as well, toners are used for different benefits, such as tackling dryness, acne, and aging.
