On Monday, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was taken to the Kenyatta National Hospital for medical treatment, just hours after he was transferred to Kamiti Maximum Prison following a ruling.
According to Sonko's communication director Elkana Jacob, the governor was admitted to the hospital at 9:45 pm on Monday.
Earlier, Sonko's lawyer Cecil Miller had informed the court that the governor required an urgent chest CT scan and had already been administered pain medication.
Miller also stated that Sonko had possible rib fractures as a result of his arrest.
As reported by the Star, Miller said, "He needs medical attention with the possibility of admission. Sonko did not assault police officers, instead, he was the one who was assaulted."
High Court Judge Ogoti directed Sonko to receive medical treatment in the presence of prison authorities, following a letter from MP Shah Hospital signed by Dr Esther Nafula Wekesa, which showed that Sonko had been examined at the facility.
On Friday evening, Sonko had complained of chest pain following an assault, and the pain had been worsening over time.
Dr Wekesa's letter recommended an urgent chest CT scan to rule out rib fractures and hospital admission for further evaluation.
On Wednesday, Sonko will appear in court to learn the fate of his bail application.
