Chilean Military Plane Missing with 38 Passengers

On December 9, 2019, a Chilean military plane, a C-130 Hercules, departed from Punta Arenas, Chile, at 1:55 am, but lost contact with air traffic control three hours later.

Operation Search and Rescue has been launched, with military planes searching the area where the plane was last seen.

Chilean President Sebastián Piñera expressed concern over the incident and assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted.

"We will follow up on this situation and send search and rescue teams," Piñera tweeted.

Among the passengers on board were 17 crew members and 21 passengers.
