Kenya's police force is facing a crisis of morale, with officers struggling to cope with the harsh conditions they face on a daily basis.
One officer, who wished to remain anonymous, spoke out about the challenges they face in a viral video that has sparked widespread debate.
"When you see us fixing this vehicle and we have walked all the way from Garissa just know we are in one of the most dangerous places. Just a few metres away these terrorists have cut off the roads with explosives," the officer said.
The officer, who was filmed near Boni Forest, highlighted the sacrifices made by police officers to keep the country safe, and called on citizens to respect them.
"When you talk negatively about police just know we have sacrificed our lives for you to stay safe and when you get reliable information just let us know, we will work better that way," they added.
However, the officer also expressed frustration over the level of corruption in the country, which they said was ruining the country.
"I appeal to those people who steal from government coffers, we cannot sacrifice ourselves this much then somebody just walks away with money that could help in our payment and educate our children. I pray that you be arrested," they said.
The officer's comments have sparked a heated debate, with some calling for greater support for the police force and others criticizing the officer for speaking out without authorization.
