According to a study by the African Population and Health Research Centre, a staggering 64.4% of women seeking post-abortion care in Kenya are married women.

Published on December 10, 2019, the study revealed that the number of induced abortions in Kenya has been on the rise, with over 465,000 cases reported in 2012 alone.

As reported by Wanja Mbuthia in The Standard, the study found that the rate of induced abortions has increased from 45 cases per 1,000 women in 2002 to 48 cases per 1,000 women in 2012.

Reacting to the findings, Mwalimu King'ang'i expressed his shock, saying, 'Why would you want to do that? Plus you are married. Surely those things used to be done by University students so that they could clear school. Where is that coming from?'

Others shared their personal experiences, with one man revealing that his friend's wife had been given cash to terminate her pregnancy, while another man claimed that married women are more promiscuous and therefore more likely to seek abortions.
