On December 10, 2019, Qatar Airways announced a significant investment in Rwanda's Bugesera airport project, acquiring a 60% stake in the $1.3 billion venture.

The partnership between the government of Rwanda and Qatar Airways features three agreements: to build, own, and operate the facility. This investment is expected to support the growth of RwandAir, the country's national carrier, as it seeks to expand its operations.

The new Bugesera airport will have the capacity to handle 7 million passengers annually, with plans to expand to 14 million passengers by 2032. The airport's redesign will enable it to accommodate increased passenger traffic and support the growth of RwandAir's fleet size.

RwandAir currently serves 28 destinations, with new routes planned to America, Ethiopia, Angola, and Mozambique. The new airport will provide a significant boost to the airline's operations, enabling it to expand its services and increase its passenger capacity.
